Where's the tech?
As a tech person, I'm often get frustrated working with anything in the government.
Today, Barbara Gervin-Hawkins had another of her Virtual Power Breakfast things which I wasn't able to attend. These events are held on Zoom, so I know they can record them. Since I'm trying to keep up to date on all the stuff going on both locally in Texas and on the Federal level, I want to go back and watch this meeting to see what was said.
Process
I head out to her website at the Texas house website: https://house.texas.gov/members/3445
This site has very little information about anything going on right now. There are some bills which she's authored, but not a lot of detail on why she wanted them passed
The newsletter section doesn't have any data
There's no media
Next, I knew she had a campaign site so I checked it out: https://www.barbaragervin.com
this doesn't look like it's been updated in a while
it does give links to Facebook and X, but when I follow those there's not much info there either
X requires you to have an account to look at the posts
Facebook allows me to see her posts but she hasn't updated anything since 1/22/24
Thinking there might be some stuff up on Youtube, I did a search and found what I think to be her handle: http://www.youtube.com/@D120Office
This did have her last virtual breakfast, but it was only uploaded 8 days ago
I even called her office in Austin (512) 463-0708 and talked to a staff member.
She didn't even know Barbara did these virtual breakfasts and had no information on if they would be uploaded later or not
We live in an age where billionaires can send their dick ships to space, but getting in touch with your elected representatives is a pain in the ass. They might give you an email address, or a phone number to call but it basically feels like throwing a coin into a wishing well.
Chip Roy has 2.2 million, cash on hand but somehow can't hold more than one virtual town hall a quarter. I've called Senator Cornyn's office multiple times and only ever get voicemail. I guess this shouldn't surprise me. It's not the average voter they're interested in. They want to talk to the money. If I'm not donating millions, I should be happy with leaving a voicemail.
